EDIT: Just to add that it IS important to change even strong master passwords because if the hackers discovered it in their backup copy, they could also attempt to login and get your NEW passwords also.

When I switched over my passwords to more secure ones, I also switched all my emails to aliases. But lastpass say that if your old master password was following their guideline then it is very difficult for the hackers to guess. On top of that, since you’re giving out different emails to different services, they can’t cross reference your data amongst themselves. This way you don’t have to give out your real email unless you really want to and you can also deactivate any of your aliases to stop getting spam or junk mail. I switched to 1Password (also considered BitWarden) and created a vault to import all my passwords into.

Better to leave LP for a competitor and update your important passwords. Basically it’s email aliases so you can create different emails for all different services and then all those emails get forwarded to your real email. At a minimum, update your important passwords (email, financial, etc) and your master password. I wasn’t doing myself any favors by using the same password for multiple things or making them too weak in the first place.Īlso, if you also fall down the rabbit hole of privacy, I started using a service called AnonAddy (short for Anonymous Address) that’s been stellar so far. I’ve started using Apple’s suggest password function for all but a few of my passwords.
